Board Member Fundraising Policy

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to define the role of the Board of Directors in the fundraising efforts of Barber’s Camp Non-Profit Organization. Board members play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization through personal contributions and by engaging others in support of our mission.

2. Commitment to Fundraising

Each board member is expected to actively support and participate in the fundraising efforts of Barber’s Camp. This includes contributing personally, cultivating donors, leveraging networks, and participating in campaigns and events.

3. Annual Giving Requirement

Each board member is expected to make a meaningful annual financial contribution to Barber’s Camp. The amount is not fixed, but it should reflect each member’s capacity to give and demonstrate a strong commitment to the organization. 100% board giving is essential to show unity and commitment, especially when applying for grants and seeking major gifts.

4. Fundraising Responsibilities

Board members are expected to contribute in the following ways:

A. Personal Giving

Make Barber’s Camp one of your top philanthropic priorities annually. Fulfill personal financial contributions early in the fiscal year when possible.

B. Donor Cultivation

Introduce Barber’s Camp to potential donors, sponsors, or partners. Host or co-host events, tours, or meetings to engage prospective supporters. Make thank-you calls or write personal notes to donors.

C. Campaign Participation Support major fundraising initiatives, such as capital campaigns, sponsorship drives, or online giving events. Help identify prospects and secure contributions or pledges.

D. Event Involvement Attend and promote Barber’s Camp fundraising events. Invite guests, assist with planning, or help secure in-kind donations or sponsorships.

5. Support and Training

Barber’s Camp is committed to providing tools and support to help board members succeed in fundraising. This may include: Fundraising training and workshops Talking points and mission impact materials Templates for outreach, thank-you letters, and emails Staff support to prepare materials or accompany members on donor visits

6. Recognition and Accountability

The organization will celebrate and recognize the contributions of board members in a meaningful and appropriate way. Fundraising participation will be part of each board member’s annual review or self-assessment. The Governance Committee may follow up with members who are not meeting expectations to offer support or discuss adjustments.

7. Ethics and Integrity

All board fundraising activities must be conducted with the highest level of professionalism and in accordance with Barber’s Camp’s ethical standards and donor privacy policy. Donor relationships should be built on trust, transparency, and mutual respect.
